Suffering from acid reflux disease happens to millions of people. These
people spend millions of dollars each year trying to relieve their
torment. A simple change in a person‘s diet may be all that is necessary
for said people to stop the suffering caused by acid reflux disease.
A persistent back up in the intestine causes acid reflux disease. This
can be caused by an over indulgence in red meat or dairy products. This
prevents the digestive system from operating in a normal manner. Acids
generated by the stomach are not allowed to naturally move with food as
it digests; as the food is not allowed to move either. This causes a
build up of acid
to be pushed into the esophagus and the intense burning associated with
acid reflux disease. Prolonged repetition of this sequence of events
causes deterioration of the esophagus and may lead to esophageal cancer.
This can be avoided by instituting a few simple changes in a person‘s diet. Eating less red meat and
dairy products is a start. Another way a person can end their suffering
from acid reflux disease is by adding more fiber to their diet. The addition of fiber to the
diet can also reduce the risk of
diverticulitis.
Fiber comes in two forms, soluble and insoluble. For optimum health, a
body requires both forms of fiber. Even so, insoluble fiber is what is
necessary for reducing acid reflux distress. Insoluble fiber pushes
food material through the intestines. Providing the body adequate
amounts of insoluble fiber will lessen and eventually stop acid reflux
symptoms. Providing, of course, that the acid reflux has not advanced
to the point of seriously damaging the esophagus. Only your doctor can
determine the extent of damage from acid reflux disease.
Fiber can be found in a variety of foods, typically fruits and
vegetables. As long as a person eats a variety of sources of fiber they
do will obtain sufficient supply of both soluble and insoluble fiber.
Dark green vegetables have large amounts of fiber. Potatoes and even
apples are also good sources of fiber. A fresh salad with a meal can
add a significant amount of fiber. Whole grains are an excellent source
of dietary fiber. A person can always use some type of fiber
supplement, however, finding natural sources of fiber, indeed, any
nutrient, is the best solution.

One’s doctor should always be consulted before any major changes to a
person’s diet are implemented. Good luck
and good health to everyone.
