Avian diets from chicks to adults need to balanced between a pelleted diet, seeds and home cooked food.  Specifics vary from breed to breed.  Many smaller captive bred birds do just fine on seed only avian diets, while the larger captive bred birds need a higher fat content in their avian diet as well as a higher concentration of other nutrients.  Healthy avain diets are delicious (to the captive bred birds).

Baby birds need the most precise nitrition for wellness care of caged birds.  Hand feeding caged birds is also a fulfilling exercise for the human care taker.  All hand fed foods should be fed at a baby birds normal body temperature to ensure proper digestion.
