Parrot Facts: Feather Plucking Caused By Pet Parrot Stress---------- Feather plucking (displacement behavior) is often caused by environmental exposure; i.e. new living conditions in cages instead of the wild. Captive born birds also display feather plucking (displacement behavior). The pet parrot stress is still caused by environmental exposure. Caged birds are exposed to household chemicals; fumes, such as those created by chlorine bleach cause pet parrot stress which causes feather plucking or other forms of displacement behavior.
The relative hazardous conditions created by chlorine bleach products depends on the concentration of sodium hypochlorite. Due to the anatomy and physiology of the avian lung, caged birds are at increased risk of succumbing to fumes from chlorine bleach and other household cleaning agents. Coughing, gagging and sneezing are signs of respiratory irritation. Please, bookmark this page and return often.
