Much of the suffering on earth is caused by the humans living upon
it. Humans create pollution, act dishonestly and greedily,
fight wars
and
other deeds that are detestable to God. In the commission of such acts,
humans hurt not only themselves, but others as well. Should humans
expect to be unaffected from the consequences of what they do?
Proverbs 1:30-33 They did not consent to my counsel; they disrespected
all my reproof. So they will eat from the fruitage of their way, and
they will be glutted with their own counsels. As for the one listening
to me, he will reside in security and be undisturbed from the dread of
calamity.
Galatians 6:7 Do not be misled: God is not one to be mocked. For
whatever a man is sowing, this he will also reap.
The influence of wicked spirits is another cause of suffering as is
stated in the Gospel. Due to this fact, many people blame God for their
woes, but this is actually not the case at all.
Revelation 12:12 On this account be glad, you heavens and you who
reside in them! Woe for the earth and for the sea, because the Devil
has come down to you, having great anger, knowing he has a short period
of time.
Acts 10:38 namely, Jesus who was from Nazareth, how God anointed him
with holy spirit and power, and he went through the land doing good and
healing those oppressed by the Devil; because God was with him.
If Jehovah is, indeed, the loving God he purports to be, why does he
allow the anguish and wickedness? Perusal of the following scripture
will provide some insight to this question.
Genesis 2:16,17 And Jehovah God also laid this command upon the man:
From every tree of the garden you may eat to satisfaction. But as for
the tree of the knowledge of good and bad you must not eat from it, for
in the day you eat from it you will positively die.
Genesis 3:1-6 Now the serpent proved to be the most cautious of all the
wild beasts of the field that Jehovah God had made. So it began to say
to the woman: Is it really so that God has said that you must not eat
from every tree of the garden? At this the woman said to the serpent:
Of the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat. But as for eating
of the tree that is in the middle of the garden, God has said, You must
not eat from it, no, you must not touch it that you do not die. At this
the serpent said to the woman: You positively will not die. For God
knows that in the very day of your eating from it your eyes will be
opened and you are bound to be like God, knowing good and bad.
When the serpent said, You positively will not die, this is when sin
entered the world; and when Eve actually ate from the apple is when sin
entered the body of man. Yet, the sin did not come from the apple. The
sin was actually the product of Satan's active disrespect of God and
His word.
Creating the Bible as a sort of User‘s Manual, Jehovah God has imparted
upon us a way to avoid much of the strife in the world. God’s word is
the very best counsel on living. The correct application of God’s word
to our lives can provide lives filled with meaning, an end to needless
physical suffering, a happy family life and close association with
people that actually love one another.
2 Timothy 3:16,17 All scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for
teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining
in righteousness, that the man of God may be fully competent,
completely equipped for every good work.
The Bible shows us why these conditions exist today.
Ecclesiastes 4:1 And I myself returned that I might see all the acts of
oppression that are being done under the sun, and, look! The tears of
those being oppressed but they had no comforter; and on the side of
their oppressors there was power, so that they had no comforter.
Matthew 24:37-39 For just as the days of Noah were, so the presence of
the Son of man will be. For as they were in those days before the
flood, eating and drinking, men marrying and women being given in
marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and they took
no note until the flood came and swept them all away, so the presence
of the Son of man will be.
The important issues presented in this article are: There is nothing
earthly that can save us from our oppression and be ever vigilant for
the return of the King. The Bible also shows us that God is aware of
our suffering and what He plans to do about it.
Psalms 72:12,14 For he will deliver the poor one crying for help, Also
the afflicted one and whoever has no helper. From oppression and
violence he will redeem their soul, And their blood will be precious in
his eyes.
The scripture presented herein lay a foundation upon which
understanding of why suffering is allowed and what God has planned to
do about it.
