Successful weight management can be attained by anyone. Despite this fact, not everyone finds successful weight management in eat less and exercise more. Those that fit into this category need to acquire some methods to assist in achieving and successful weight management.

Successful weight management starts by being more aware of what is eaten. This means more than just saying to oneself, I ate a hamburger and some fries... What is eaten, how much of it is eaten and total amount of calories and fat should be written in a journal. A journal can be a valuable way to establish where a person needs to focus their attention.

Get active and stay active. Exercise is an important part of achieving and maintaining optimum health. A two year study by Stanford University researchers showed men that lost weight and foolowed a sensible exercise program were more likely to be able to successfully maintain their lowered weight. Those that chose to diet without exercise on average regained half of the weight they had lost. A sensible exercise program will help a person attain successful weight management.

Have proper timing for sensible exercise programs. It is more beneficial for some people exercise after they eat; for others it is better that they exercise before they eat. People that are trying to maintain their weight will find greater benefit from a sensible exercise program about an hour after they eat. On the other hand, people that are overweight tend to burn more calories if they exercise first then eat. The knowledge of correct timing for a sensible exercise program can be constructive in successful weight management.

Another useful tip for successful weight management is setting a danger zone. 3-4 pounds above the ideal weight is a good danger zone. At this point a person should take action, instead of allowing 5, 10 or even more pounds to accumulate first.

Successful weight management is easier to obtain if a person does not skip meals. The fewer number of meals a person eats, the greater that person‘s tendency for obesity. A person can actually burn 10 percent more calories by eating smaller meals throughout the day instead of eating fewer larger meals. This is due to the fact that eating small meals actually increases a person’s metabolic rate. The person must still keep his calorie count to a reasonable level.

Drink more water to aid in successful weight management. People often mistake dehydration as a craving for food and therefore eat to satisfy their thirst. A person can drink 3-4 ounces of water at time such as this and be satisfied. The human body functions best when approximately 64 ounces of water are consumed a day.

Successful weight management can be found for some by spicing up the palate. Eating spicy food as a main course can help a person to be less likely to want dessert.

Eat slowly. The brain needs 20 minutes to register that the body is full. Eating at a moderate pace, occasionally pausing to drink some water, will help a person to eat less before they start to feel full. This is an easy way to find successful weight management.

Studies show that persons that do not eat in crowds are more successful in weight management. Research performed by psychologists at Georgia State University shows the more people a person eats with the more that person will eat, regardless of whether or not they are actually hungry.

Social situations often call for strategy to play a part in successful weight management. Eat a filling, low calorie snack prior to leaving for the party. Decide what types of food to eat before attending the party. While at the party, eat at a pace that is slower than others at the party.

Get a diet partner. Dieters that have a friend or spouse dieting with them lose more weight and have a greater likelihood of successful weight management. Joining an online support group or a group such as Overeaters Anonymous or Weight Watchers is an ideal way of finding support and other useful tips for successful weight management.
